SkyeFur's Story - Prolouge

Posted by Skystar on August 23, 2013 at 9:50 AM

"Skye... Skye, are you awake?" A tiny silver she-kit wriggled drowsily in her nest of feathers as a familiar voice roused her from her sleep. She blinked open two, huge brilliant-blue eyes, as big an round as two moons. Skye mewled and squirmed with defiance as she was plucked gently from her sleeping hollow by a strong pair of teeth. She gave up on struggling and let herself hang by her scruff from her father's jaws.

"Where are we going daddy?" Skye looked up at StormFur, craning her neck to see into the handsome grey tom's yellow gaze. She turned her head again to look at her cosy nest beside her mother, Brooke where small Fish Swim, and her brother and sister, Pine and Lark, which was layed in the very center of the kit-mother's cave. It was perfect. She already missing the feathers taken carefully from the fluffiest eagle chick that tickled her nose and kept her warm through the night.

Stormfur retreated from the kit-mothers den and crouched at the entrance before placing his daughter on the smooth, hard surface of the cave floor. He licked his lips to clear them of tiny light grey hairs from Skye's fuzzy scruff before whispering to her. "Somewhere very special. But you must not say a word as I'm not actually allowed to take you out of the cave yet. This is a secret, so you must be as quiet as a hibernating snow hare."

Skye nodded. "Okay." She mewed. She slapped her tail over her mouth. Stormfur rolled his eyes, waved his tail in amusement and then picked Skye up once more and pressed his pelt to one side of the cave. The grey tabby slunk past prey hunters; cave guards; even the leader of the Tribe of Rushing Water, Stoneteller. The gentle light of dusk seeped through cracks in the tunnel that led to the cave and turned the rushing silver water that gushed over the cave's entrance, the waterfall, to beautiful golden droplets that rained down from the rocks above. Skye gasped as cold, fresh air rushed over her and sent a shiver down from her nose to her tail like one of the waves from sun-drown place that she had heared of in elder's tales.

The kitten's jaw dropped as Stormfur padded out from behind the waterfall and huge landscapes and wonders were revealed to her. Towering mountains dotted with trees and rocky surfaces reigned above all else, except for the fantastic colours of the sky at sunset. Red, orange and golden light, all mingled into one amazing stretch of sky. Pink clouds drifted lazily across the sunlit atmostphere and faint stars glittered, preparing for the coming night.     Skye of Silver before Sunset lifted one paw to touch the dazzling light before a single fluffy cloud engulfed the sun, and darkness was all that met Skye's eyes. Her pretty silver fur fluffed out. And she covered her eyes with both paws.

"I hate the dark." She mumbled, her voice quivering. "It's creepy."

StormFur smiled lovingly, then once again set off with his daughter in his grasp, up the rockfall and towards the sky. He leapt confidently from rock to rock, higher and higher until there was nothing left there to jump on. They had reached the top. Skye slowly removed her paws from her face, and her eyes were huge. She looked out across every mountaintop, each one touched by a single ray of sunlight. She cloud had moved on and only half of the beautiful glowing ball of light remained, the rest hidden by the earth and mountains. To Skye it was the most amazing this in the entire world. She didn't want to leave, no, not ever. Her father carefully placed her on the snowy ground and sat back on his haunches to admire the beauty of the setting sun.

Time passed quickly, but to the young she-kit it felt only like a few heartbeats. StormFur bent down to nudge skye back onto her paws.

"Come on, it's time to go home." He whispered, his ears pricked and alert for predators. He bounced down a few rocks before turning to look back at Skye, who still sat, perched on the peack of the mountain. Stars dotted the sky, and moonlight made her fur glow with white light. He sighed. Then Stormfur's heart turned to ice. A deafening schreech lit up the night with sound and the pernicious talons of a bald eagle came into sight. It's eyes glinted evilly and it's claws were extended and sharp. It was plummeting, head first towards one small, unsespecting cat. Skye.

Stormfur did the only thing instinctive to his mind: Attack. He flung himself at the giant bird, although it was almost four times his size. It flapped madly in the air as the tom teared at it's wings, then reached out and grabbed StormFur in it's claws and flung him away. The grey tabby fell to the cold, hard ground, a deep gash in his side. He was dazed for moments, but he scrambled to his paws the moment he regained his strength. But it was too late. The hawk had grabbed the schreeching Skye in it's talons and was rising from the ground. The kit yowled in terror. "Dada! Help me!" StormFur watched in horror, powerless to what was happening. He let out one final yowl to his dearest daughter as she was carried of into the distance: "I will find you Skye! I will see you again, One day! Just Stay Alive!"
